Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common frequently asked questions:

What is a Passport Expeditor?

A Passport Expeditor is a service registered with the U.S. Department of State that helps U.S. citizens obtain expedited passports. We serve all 50 states. We offer four processing tiers: Standard (4–6 weeks), Expedited (2–4 weeks), Priority (10–14 business days), and Rushed (4–6 business days). Processing times begin once we receive your documents. If you need your passport urgently, we are here to help!

How does our service work?

If you need a passport within two weeks or less, our service is designed for you. After placing your order, you will be directed to our Instructional Checklist, which includes all the necessary forms and document requirements. You will gather the required documents following the checklist and send everything to us via overnight FedEx. Once we receive your documents, we begin the processing immediately. When your new passport is ready, we ship it back to you using overnight FedEx delivery.

What is an Acceptance Agent?

An Acceptance Agent is a government-authorized official, usually located at a post office or county clerk’s office, who verifies your identity and witnesses your signature. This step is required for new passports, lost or stolen passport replacements, and child passport applications. Think of them like a notary but specifically for passport services.

What forms will I need?

The passport application process can seem complicated, but we’re here to make it easier. Our Instructional Checklists guide you through every step necessary for expediting your passport. If you need help with any forms, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Who needs a U.S. Passport?

All U.S. citizens traveling outside of the United States need a valid passport. If you are traveling by land to Canada or Mexico, a passport card is sufficient. However, for air travel, a full passport book is required. It’s important to ensure your passport has at least six months of validity remaining.

Can I get a Passport Card?

A passport card is a wallet-sized document, similar to a driver’s license, that allows travel to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land and sea—but not by air. If you plan to fly internationally, you will need a full passport book.

Do I need a Letter of Authorization?

Yes. A Letter of Authorization is required when using our expedited passport services. It allows us to submit your passport application on your behalf.

How many years is My Passport valid for?

An adult passport (issued after age 16) is valid for 10 years. A minor passport (issued before age 16) is valid for only 5 years. Minor passports cannot be renewed; instead, a new application must be submitted until the applicant turns 16 and qualifies for an adult passport.

How can you get a Passport and Visa so fast?

As a registered courier with the U.S. Department of State, we have direct access to Passport Agencies without needing an appointment—something the general public cannot do. Similarly, we maintain strong relationships with embassies and consulates, allowing us to expedite visa services quickly as well.

Is this a secure service?

Yes. United Passport is a private passport expediting service that works under 123 Access Travel Passport, a licensed U.S. passport courier. We have been helping American travelers for over 15 years. If you need a passport or visa faster than the normal 4–6 week processing time, we are here to help.

Is your website and order form secure?

Absolutely. United Passport uses the highest level of security protocols, including GeoTrust SSL certificates with 248-bit encryption—the strongest encryption available. Our site is also protected by McAfee Security, which monitors and scans for vulnerabilities daily.

Is this guaranteed?

We guarantee that we will process your application correctly. However, we are not responsible for delays caused by shipping companies like FedEx or delays from the Passport Agency. The Passport Agency may sometimes require additional information, and if that happens, we will assist you through the process. We have an excellent track record of processing passports and visas on time, so our clients don’t miss their trips.

Why is there a service fee?

We are authorized by the U.S. Department of State to expedite passport applications. Our fee covers the immediate handling and processing of your passport, avoiding the typical 4–6 week wait through the Post Office. We manage the process fully.

Do you process secondary duplicate Passports?

Yes. Frequent travelers sometimes need a second duplicate passport if they must submit their primary passport for visa processing but still have upcoming travel plans. A duplicate passport can also be necessary for travelers moving between countries involved in conflicts. Duplicate passports are usually valid for one to two years.

Can I skip the Acceptance Agent step?

No, the Acceptance Agent step is mandatory for new passports and child passports. The agent verifies your identity and paperwork, then seals everything in a secure envelope. This sealed envelope must go directly to us for submission to the State Department and cannot be opened or tampered with.

Can my Passport get denied?

Passports can be denied for several reasons, including:

  • Errors or incomplete information on your application form
  • Being on probation
  • Owing more than $1,500 in child support
  • Having an active arrest warrant
  • Being summoned to court
  • Being currently incarcerated
How can I get a Passport for my child or minor?

Both parents or guardians must complete a Statement of Consent and all necessary paperwork. Afterward, both parents/guardians and the child must visit an Acceptance Agent together. Please refer to our Child Passport Instructional Checklist for full details.

Do I need an official copy of my Birth Certificate?

Yes. You must provide an official birth certificate with a raised state seal. You can get a copy from your local state office, order an Express Birth Certificate, or contact the National Center for Health Statistics for assistance.

What should I do if my Passport is Lost, Stolen, or Mutilated?

You will need to fill out a DS-64 form to report your passport as lost, stolen, or mutilated. You should also bring new passport photos and an official copy of your birth certificate to the Acceptance Agent.

Do I need a Passport to travel to Canada or Mexico?

Yes. As of December 31, 2007, all U.S. citizens must have a valid passport to travel by air, sea, or land to Canada or Mexico. A passport card can be used for land and sea travel but not for air travel.

How are Passport Photos different from Regular Photos?

Passport photos must meet strict U.S. State Department requirements. It is recommended to have your passport photos taken professionally. You can refer to our Passport Photo Page for specific guidelines.

Do Babies need a Passport?

Yes. Every U.S. citizen, including infants, must have their own valid passport to travel internationally.

Can I change my Name on my Passport?

If your passport was issued less than one year ago, you can request a name change. If it’s older than one year, you will need to submit a Passport Renewal Application. You must also provide an official marriage or divorce certificate.
